Shipibo Unisex Cushma — Tierra
This one-of-a-kind Shipibo cushma carries a particularly special history.
The garment was originally gifted by a Shipibo maestra to one of the senior students of the late Asháninka paje Juan Flores Salazar, founder of Mayantuyacu in the Peruvian Amazon. The student wore this cushma throughout many years of traditional plant dietas and study under Juan Flores.
Rather than being newly produced for sale, this is a previously worn ceremonial garment that comes to Rainbow Bridge through that personal lineage of study and practice. Its years of use and natural signs of wear are part of the history of the piece.
The cushma features an extraordinary field of geometric design in burnt orange, terracotta, burgundy and deep earth tones. Its long, open silhouette falls freely from the shoulders, while intricate designs extend across nearly the entire garment.
